Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) gains popularity again after shooting Story of Yanxi Palace (延禧攻略) drama. On 29th August 2018, she attended an opening ceremony of an event (雪花秀人參之旅展覽) and one side of her face especially the neck was quite red. Charmaine denied it was due to skin allergy but caused by humid weather. She also spent lots of time on taking care of her skin.
When asked if she was called “Consort Xian” in the public, Charmaine said: “Yes. I return from Beijing to Hong Kong last night and an air-stewardess gives me a card while giving the meal. She asked if I could take photo with them after eating. Everyone is very focused on the drama and it does bring in additional work opportunities, but I am unsure if my fee is increased.”
Checking if she was paid $2 million (RMB) to shoot the series, Charmaine evaded it: “The whole team feels happy that the series receives excellent reviews. There is true and fake rumours and let’s forget about it after a good laugh. (Are you paid with that amount stated in the news?) Based on Imperial Noble Consort Huixian’s speech, the rumours become true as long as someone believes it.”
Charmaine believed it was unnecessary to explain every single matter to the public and when asked if she fought for her share successfully, she said: “I do not feel I lose anything right from the start and feel overjoyed to shoot the series.”
Mentioning that Wang Maolei (王茂蕾) was the biggest villain as he betrayed Wu Jinyan (吳謹言) in the series and some netizen posted nasty comment on his account on Weibo and was forced to wear a mask in the public, Charmaine said: “It is considered good as it shows the audiences are very focused on the drama. (Jinyan is pointed to act as a big shot?) I heard about it and have no idea. Anyway, she has apologised and I feel she is very nice when working together. (Story of Yanxi Palace drama is rumoured to shoot sequel?) No idea. Fortunately, I am alive in the series.”
In addition, when asked if she congratulated her rumoured old love, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) as he got married lately, Charmaine replied she was in overseas for many months and did not get to see him: “I must congratulate him personally. (Treating him to dinner?) Shouldn’t he treat me to dinner instead?”
