Watching drama always makes the time pass quickly! Detective Investigation Files II (刑事偵緝檔案II) drama aired its finale at midnight on 22nd May 2018. As mentioned before, TVB’s senior management decided to add in additional 10 episodes at eleventh hour for Detective Investigation Files II drama (debut in December 1995) in order to get ready for the war with ATV’s big drama, I have a Date with Spring (我和春天有個約會) starring Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) and Kiki Sheung (商天娥) airing in January 1996. TVB won the victory in terms of the ratings record and changed the destiny of the main leads ever since.
In the series, Louisa So (蘇玉華) acted as Joey Leung’s (梁榮忠) wife passed away due to a car accident. He was then involved in a love triangle relationship with Margaret Chung (鍾麗淇) and Winnie Young (楊婉儀), while Kenix Kwok (郭可盈) acted as Michael Tao’s (陶大宇) wife suffered from a memory loss due to investigating a case involving Teresa Mak’s (麥家琪) death. Jiang Han (江漢) and Jim Ping Hei (詹秉熙) begun to attack Kenix. After waking up from a coma, Kenix felt sorry for Michael as she failed to remember any of their memories and decided to relocate to US with her mother, So Hang Shuen (蘇杏璇).
Upon getting close to the finale, Michael told Kenix to turn back if she could remember him before going towards the departure hall while the background music was playing the song (愛的輓歌) sang by Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文). She then turned back with her eyes wet and it wrapped up the ending. Many audiences commented it was a very sad ending on Facebook after watching the rebroadcast.
After several years, Michael and Kenix admitted they did not have chemistry when filming Detective Investigation Files (刑事偵緝檔案) drama during an interview but they acceded to the audiences’ requests to filming the sequel. They started to establish rapport gradually and Kenix said: “Filming the sequel gives me a deep memory because of the ending.” Michael believed it was a method to achieve good ratings record: “I guess the film producer plans it this way as the audiences love to watch the drama and it allows them to analyse it too.” Kenix continued: “But many audiences dislike the ending and request for a happy ending by writing to K-100.” Ever wonder if TVB plans a happy ending eventually?
The film producer, Poon Ka Tak (潘嘉德) denied about filming the ending again and when asked if he purposely planned an open ending so as to pave the road for the third instalment, he said: “It does not cross my mind and an open ending allows the audiences to have a deeper memory and analyse it.” Ka Tak remarked the audiences had fertile imagination about opening up the way to third instalment.
He said: “I disagree that the open ending creates another story for the third instalment as it is an ending and we can film the sequel based on any story. (The ending in the second instalment is unrelated to filming the third instalment?) The audiences focus on watching the drama and an open ending allows them to have a fertile imagination including a happy ending. It is a popular series with good image and potential to film the sequel. It is predicted that the company will not give up.” Detective Investigation Files III (刑事偵緝檔案III) drama begun the filming in 1996 and aired the first episode on 1st September 1997. The location shooting was taken in Beijing as Kenix needed to conduct an overseas interview and Michael started to look for his wife.
