Michael Tong fails to film series within 3 months in China: I swallow my words

Hong Kong senior screenwriter, Ella Chan Bo Wah (陳寶華) attended the seminar related to the ways of achieving to another peak for Hong Kong drama (港劇如何再創高峯?) at night on 28th May 2018. Michael Tong (唐文龍) expressed their first collaboration was Return of the Cuckoo (十月初五的月光) drama and Ella disclosed he was lucky, as he happened to walk past when discussing with senior management.

Michael pointed he ventured his career in China in 2006 without any background, position and connection. Ella said: “You drunk quite a lot of fish maw soup at my house and told me that you believed you will film series within 3 months. What happen eventually?” Michael said: “I swallowed my own words.”

Subsequently, Ella remarked she will be famous in China if the Return Home (榮歸) drama was popular. She invited Adam Cheng (鄭少秋), Gua Aleh (歸亞蕾), Bowie Tsang (曾寶儀) as the main leads and to celebrate the return of Hong Kong to China. She said: “I write Return Home drama in China. Once, I saw the director of television authority and other introduced me as (我本善良) to him. He nodded his head and praised the Return Home drama was realistic. They love their culture but there is no unity in Hong Kong people.”

Tony Hung (洪永城) and Raymond Wong (黃浩然) shared their experiences on the stage as well. Tony joined TVB from Cable TV Hong Kong (有線) and suffered from hair loss due to tremendous pressure. Ella then encouraged him that he had talent in shooting comedy and Tony said: “Regarding my hair loss problem, I do not see a doctor but seek advice from hairstylist instead.”

Ella said when it was Raymond’s turn on the stage: “The first time that I saw him was in ATV and felt he resembled Leslie Cheung (張國榮). He said he wanted to be the main lead once sitting down and I was thinking that he was a “good looking rascal”. He uses the drama to modify his acting skills and there is many advantages as Hong Kong artiste.”

In addition, The director, Michael Mak (麥當傑) was present at the same event and felt the youngsters were full of hopes and having passion was more important than money. He added there was tremendous pressure to film drama with tight schedule and little income in Hong Kong. Michael also shared the shooting experience of Everlasting Love (停不了的愛) film and used 7 equipment to film the scene where Andy Lau (劉德華) was chased by the people in Temple Street.
