How many staff is TVB going to fire? It is believed that the problems are related to the management and and moral ethics. Firstly, it reduces the manpower in the fitness and voice dubbing teams. Lately, an insider news points that TVB is going to retrench staff in the drama department, the lifeblood of the company.
A staff has confirmed that TVB will be ending the operation of studio room 16 and retrenching 20 to 30 staff who handle the operations there after shooting The Solution Expert (解決師) drama starring TV King, Vincent Wong (王浩信) and TV Queen, Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) and the film producer was Lau Ka Ho (劉家豪). TVB plans to rent out the studio room with the equipment and background setting to other production team after that. Another explanation is TVB is shifting the focus to a combination of shooting drama and deciding to reduce the usage of bigger studio room. It is evident that TVB is cutting down on its budget.
In addition, TVB has intentions to reduce around 100 employees in props and design departments and Human Resource department has been checking the staff performances for the past 3 months. Hence, all staff try their best to work professionally. Nevertheless, a staff revealed to HK01 (香港01) that he was aware of TVB was reducing 10% of its manpower but lacked of time to worry due to preparing upcoming major scale shows including Ms Hong Kong beauty pageant. Based on understanding, the retrenched staff will be receiving “big letters” on 31st July 2018.
